“There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, ‘Morning, boys, how's the water?’ And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, ‘What the hell is water?’ … The point of the fish story is that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are the hardest to see and talk about. … It is about simple awareness -- awareness of what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight all around us, that we have to keep reminding ourselves, over and over: ‘This is water, this is water.’

Who Are We?

This Is Water Theatre is the first professional, ensemble theatre company in Bryan/College Station, TX.

Professional means that we compensate the performers, designers, and admins that we work with.  Compensating the people involved with theatrical work means that they can prioritize making their creative work better as a job instead of in addition to a job.  This doesn't just benefit them, it benefits the community through higher quality artistic experiences.

Ensemble means that, unlike many theatre companies, we don't hold auditions for every production.  Instead, we maintain a small group of artists who perform together over and over again.  This allows us to learn from and grow with each other from production to production.

This Is Water Theatre was founded by Andrew Roblyer. To learn more about Andrew, click here.
